Poison Cue Buying Guide

Every Poison VX, Maelith, and Candy cue runs on the same low-deflection philosophy behind Predator's REVO shaft, tuned for a different price point and a different player. This guide answers the questions players actually ask before buying — what to get for a first serious cue, what separates VX Break from VX Jump/Break, and what you're really paying for when you step up to Maelith or Candy. Use the list below to jump straight to your answer, or read straight through.

How To Choose The Right Poison Cue

A few core factors determine whether a cue is right for you. Here are the three that matter most.

Weight and Balance

Most players land between 18.5 and 19.5 oz. Heavier setups (19.5–20 oz) break harder; lighter cues give you more finesse on soft shots. Every Poison cue ships at a fixed factory weight, so it's worth choosing your weight range before you buy.

Shaft Technology

Every Poison VX, Maelith, and Candy cue ships with the Venom Carbon Fiber shaft — Predator's low-deflection engineering, tuned for accessible pricing rather than tour-level precision. Poison House Cues use a one-piece carbon fiber build designed for durability on shared tables. It won't chase the last percentage point REVO does, but it will straighten out your shot and help you build real fundamentals faster than a wood shaft.

What You're Actually Using It For

Poison is built around five distinct jobs, not a single generic "beginner cue": breaking (VX Break), breaking and jumping (VX Jump/Break), tournament and league play (Maelith), standout style at the same performance tier (Candy), and shared-table play in bars, pool halls, and game rooms (House Cues). Picking the wrong one of these is the most common buying mistake — see the comparison table below before you decide.
